Tagging/gang signs?
by cherpin
Everytime the U-Haul business paints or upgrades their business on 47th and Kilpatrick some punks deface their property.
Heres when I say bring on those surveillance video cameras and catch the perpetrators. I know "big brother" is watching everything so why not include our neighborhood. There is a manpower(police) shortage so use technology catch those punks and pose massive fines on them why are they not made to clean the garbage or be forced to clean the neighborhoods instead of enjoying free food and housing in the jails.
Overcrowding in jails and prisons is a problem so make them work!
There are no consequences for bad behavior anymore except trying to wiggle through loopholes in the legal system.
The amount of the fine imposed on the guy who tagged my house (my house ! not my garage, mind you) was so low that I considered retaliation (I found out where he lives- a nice house over on Mozart) and then turning myself in. The city does not take this seriously. Every time one asks about upping the fines you get this chorus of "it's not my department" answers.
Archer Heights Guy Long time resident.Cherpin – A few things about the 47th & Kilpatrick U-Haul and tagging in general.
Tagging was extensively discussed at the Wednesday CAPS meeting for Beats 815 & 821 and one of the biggest problems is the act of tagging takes less than a minute. One of the AHCA members present at the meeting related how late one night standing down the block from the U-Haul they observed a car pull up, four guys jump out, and in less than 30 seconds did a graffiti job on what was before a clean building. There was not even time to get a plate number or call into 911, the tagging act was that fast. And tagging, in general, occurs that fast. It is very difficult to catch taggers in the act.
The AHCA Night Watch did report the successful arrest of three taggers in the 4600 Kedvale/Keeler alley behind The Manor Banquet Hall. But the Night Watch cars were following these three taggers from 52nd & Keeler under the Orange Line, and later spotted them climbing the telephone pole in back of The Manor and phoned the police. Within minutes of the call to 911 an unmarked squad car was on the scene and had already grabbed one tagger who said he his buddies had run. But the two other taggers were still on the roof and the Watch Group told the police who in turn brought in three more squad cars, got the kids down from the roof and arrested all.
But back to U-Haul. The manager of that facility, unlike previous managers, has been very uncooperative in working with the AHCA. She has been approached several times by an AHCA officer, but to no avail. The AHCA continues to monitor that location as that long white wall on Kilpatrick is a major target for taggers. The hope is to get a car description, plate number and description of the taggers – not an easy task. But very frustrating. Cameras are a good idea for that location and it will be suggested to the manager. But don’t hold your breath.

Anyone heard of this before?
by Mark
Hi all...was checking out forgottenchicago.com today and came across this:
http://forgottenchicago.com/forum/5/7469/7469/_subject_#msg-7469
Anyone ever hear of this before?
MarkReal strange occurrence at 49th and Ridgeway
Citizen on 57thI'm not sure how current Google Maps is in regards to the photo of 4900 South Ridgeway. I did see the three black bags in the middle of the street.
On the other hand, I typed my address in Google Maps and discovered our house photo is about 2 to 3 years old.
The only way to be really sure, do a drive by.
I'm not interested in taking on that task.
